Some sources say Peter Murer, Sr. was baptized in 1670 in Buchs, Canton Zurich, the son of Jacob Maurer and Elsbeth Stadtman. This cannot be correct as both his burial record and a letter from Hans Tanner, a fellow immigrant, say Peter Murer was from Canton Bern (The Simmental).
